With Google updating its "Year in Search" website for 2015, the circle is complete. We’ve seen the top searches of 2015 on Bing, we’re all caught up with the year’s top searches on Yahoo!, and now we get to see what the world searched for on Google.

Note: when I said that we’ll get to see what the world searched for on Google, I really meant the world. These are the year’s most popular global searches. And not all of them, I left out the boring ones.

And that’s not all. Lamar was one of the most popular celebrities on Yahoo and he also made Bing’s list of top celebrity moments (he collapsed in a Las Vegas brothel).

The movie we’re all expecting right now is Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The latest Star Wars episode generated more than 155 million Google searches. The top question people are asking is “what order should I watch Star Wars?” I know there are (at least) 5 ways to re-watch the previous episodes:
  • Release order – watch the Star Wars movies in the order they were released. Start with Episodes 4, 5 and 6, the original trilogy, and then watch Episodes 1, 2 and 3, the prequel trilogy that shows us how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader.
  • Episode order – start with Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and make your way up to Episode 6: Return of the Jedi.
  • Flashback order – watch Episodes 4 and 5 to get into Luke Skywalker’s story. Once Darth Vader reveals himself as Luke’s father, watch Episodes 1, 2 and 3 as a flashback that present’s Darth Vader’s story. And end it by watching Episode 6.
  • Machete order – the same as Flashback, but you skip Episode 1. You won’t lose any relevant information because it’s reintroduced in Episode 2 and 3. You will lose Darth Maul, it’s true. But you’ll also lose Jar Jar Binks, so it all evens out.

Top 10 Music Artists of 2015 (Global)

Adele is number 1 on the US list as well, and that's not surprising at all. Google says the number of Adele-related searches go over 439 million. And her new song Hello, which is one of YouTube’s Top 10 music videos of 2015, has more than 731 million views at the time of writing this. Back in November, when I reported that Adele’s drinking got her banned from Twitter, the video had some 295 million views. In little over a month, the video got more than 400 million views. That is amazing!
