Billions of searches were conducted on Microsoft’s search engine this year. And now that the year is quickly coming to a close, Bing released its annual search trends, revealing 2015’s top searches in the US (and other parts of the world).

The Bing end of year recap presents the year’s most searched celebrities, top news stories, top sports moments, and more. Just take a look below.

Please note that these are the top Bing searches in the US.

2015 Most Searched Celebrities

Back in 2013, Beyoncé took the top spot in Bing’s end-of-the-year top of most searched celebrities. In 2014, the number one spot went to Kim Kardashian. This year, that honor went to Caitlyn/Bruce Jenner. By the way, did you know that Glamour Magazine gave Jenner the “Woman of the Year” award? There was quite a backlash, obviously. The decision was heavily criticized and it even prompted some to return their award.


2015 Top Celebrity Moments


  1. The Duggar family scandal – Josh Duggar, the eldest of the 19, was accused of having molested two of his younger sisters when he was a teen.
  2. That Caitlyn Jenner cover – Vanity Fair featured Caitlin Jenner on the July cover.
  3. The birth of royal baby Charlotte – Duchess Kate Middleton gave birth to another royal baby in May.
  4. Lamar Odom collapses – in a Las Vegas brothel.
  5. Big changes in late night TV – David Letterman retired, Jon Stewart left The Daily Show, Colbert succeeded David Letterman as the host of The Late Show.
  6. Bobbi Kristina Brown dies – Whitney Houston’s daughter was found unconscious in a bathtub. On July 26, she passed away.
  7. Harrison Ford's plane crash – his single-engine vintage airplane went down in a golf course because of a loose engine part.
  8. Tracy Morgan's recovery – a Walmart truck slammed into Morgan’s limo on the New Jersey Turnpike in June.
  9. Big year for Benedict Cumberbatch – wife Sophie Hunter had a baby, he was nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in The Imitation Game, he will star in a PBS special 'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride' that will air on New Year’s Day, 2016.
  10. Kermit and Miss Piggy break up – on August 4, the beloved Muppets pair announced that after 40 years together, they’re calling it quits.

  • Seahawks shocker at Super Bowl – the Seahawks won the 2015 Super Bowl.
  • American Pharoah wins Triple Crown – thoroughbred horse American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, the award for placing first in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and Belmont Stakes.
  • The world watches the Cricket World Cup – Australia won the 11th Cricket World Cup.
  • US wins Women's World Cup – the US team won the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
  • Deflategate – the NFL accused the New England Patriots of tampering with footballs used in the game against the Indianapolis Colts.
  • FIFA corruption scandal – includes charges of racketeering, wire fraud, and money laundering.
  • Pacquiao-Mayweather fight – after 12 rounds, Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.
  • Riley Curry outshines MVP dad – Riley, the daughter of Stephen Curry, NBA MVP and Golden State Warriors point guard, upstaged her dad at a post-game press conference.
  • Devon & Leah Still's emotional story – Devon Still, backup defensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals, and his 4-year old daughter who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma.
  • The Royals win the World Series – The Kansas City Royals won the 2015 World Series.

  • Paris attacks and the threat of ISIS – a wave of shootings and bombings at six different sites in Paris. 130 people were killed.
  • The EU refugee crisis – over 500,000 refugees seeking asylum in the European Union.
  • Earthquake in Nepal – a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated the Himalayan nation of Nepal this April.
  • Snowstorm buries NE US – the Northeastern US was hit by a series of aggressive, early winter storms in early 2015. Boston in particular was hit very hard.
  • Germanwings 9525 crash – the co-pilot deliberately crashed a Germanwings airplane carrying 150 passengers. The crash happened in the French Alps, killing all aboard.
  • Wildfires & drought devastate – hundreds of wildfires in Alaska; long drought followed by wildfires in California; a 73-acre blaze in the Boise foothills of Idaho.
  • US-Cuba relations restored – in May, the US officially removed Cuba from its list of countries that sponsor terrorism. In July, diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored.
  • Planned Parenthood faces potential defunding – an anti-abortion group accused Planned Parenthood that it profits from the sale of fetal tissue and asked to defund the organization.
  • Ashley Madison hacked, data leaked – hackers broke into Ashley Madison, a dating website that focuses on extramarital affairs, and publicly released a list of registered users.
  • Discoveries on Pluto & Mars – NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flew closer to Pluto than ever before. In September, NASA announced conclusive evidence of water on Mars.
The birth of Prince George of Cambridge was the most searched story of 2013, followed by the Boston Marathon Bombing and the Cleveland kidnapping.

  1. Hulk the pit bull challenges views – a giant, 175-pound pit bull that impressed with his gentle demeanor.
  2. Man has surgery to remove car part, 51 years later – 75-year old Arthur Lampitt of Granite City, Illinois, underwent surgery to remove a 7-inch metal piece that was embedded in his arm. The metal piece was in there for 51 years, from the time he crashed his car in 1963.
  3. 'The Dress' debate – is it black or is it blue? I don't really care.
  4. Rare fawn raised by humans – an incredibly adorable white-faced and blue-eyed fawn was rejected by his mother at birth. The good people of Deer Tracks Junction took the fawn in and named him Dragon.
  5. Huge gold nugget discovered in China – a herdsman discovered a gold nugget weighing over 17 pounds.
  6. Goliath fish caught by kayaker – Jon Black from Cape Coral, Florida caught a 552-pound goliath grouper.
  7. Kermit-like frog discovered – scientists found a new species of frog in Costa Rica that looks just like Kermit.
  8. Stowaway cat survives flight on plane's wing – video of a cat clinging to the wing of an open-air Skyranger plane in French Guiana.

  10. Spiders rain from sky – millions of baby spiders fell from the sky, blanketing a town near Sydney, Australia
The top strangest news of 2014 was the one about a $10 million yacht sinking at launch. The second strangest news was about a nun giving birth, and the third was about a teen who had 232 teeth removed.
