Even more good news from the Skype camp; the development team behind the popular IM and VoIP client has announced the fact that Skype 4.1 for Windows-powered machines has moved out of Beta and is now available as a final, stable version. Skype 4.1 for Windows Final comes after the release of Skype 1.1 for iPhone and Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile earlier this week. It has been a very interesting week for Skype, I have to say.

The Gold version of Skype 4.1 for Windows is available for download free of charge (download link at the bottom of the article) and comes with several bug fixes, improved audio and video, and a bunch of useful features like screen sharing for example. If you are already using Skype 4.1 for Windows Beta, these features are nothing new to you; the only thing that’s left is to upgrade and enjoy a more stable Skype version with better audio and video quality.

“Skype 4.1 for Windows is now gold, and is ready for you to download. We’ve fixed a number of bugs found in the beta release, and recommend that you update now. We’ve added useful features like screen sharing, which is a great way to show off your latest creations and presentations, or help a friend with their computer. We’ve also included birthday reminders (though you’ll have to bring your own cake). What’s more, we’ve listened to your thoughts and feedback and further refinements have been made to audio and video quality – so your calls should sound and look better than ever,” commented Skype’s Peter Parkes.

Skype 4.1 for Windows highlights:
- Screen Sharing: share your screen with other Skype users.
- Send contacts: take contacts from your list and send them to other Skype users.
- Import contacts: import contacts from external address books, including Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo!, AOL and LinkedIn.
- Birthday reminders: you will receive an alert when it is the birthday of one of your Skype contacts (alert appears at midnight, local time; if you do not use Skype that day, you will not see the alert).
- Skype browser toolbar improvements.
- Enhanced call quality.
- Several bugs have been fixed.

Skype 4.1 for Windows system requirements:
- Windows 2000, XP or Vista
- Internet connection
- Speakers and microphone
- At least 1Ghz processor, 256MB of RAM and a webcam for voice and video calls.
