Gold Version of Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile-Powered Phones Available for Download
The development team behind popular IM (instant messaging) and VoIP (voice over IP) client Skype has announced the fact that they reached another milestone in the development of their software product, Skype for Windows Mobile-powered smartphones. The milestone in question refers to the release of the Gold version of Skype 3.0 for Windows Phones – download link at the bottom of the article.
"It’s better than ever before – the Gold version of Skype 3.0 for Windows Phones is now available for download. It includes two cool new features: SMS and file transfer. Sending SMSs using Skype is a great way to reach friends and family instantly anywhere in the world – Skype’s low rates mean that you won’t have to break the bank to do it. And file transfer lets you send files quickly when you’re on the move,” commented Skype’s Peter Parkes.
The thing is that we knew about SMS and file transfer ever since Skype 3.0 was in released as a Beta back in March, but they are such neat features that they deserver re-mentioning.
The SMS feature works something like this: when you are abroad and do not want to send out an SMS and pay the rather steep roaming charges, simply find a WiFi hotspot, launch Skype 3.0 and send a message via the IM/VoIP client. Sure, you will have to pay for the message, but you will pay the standard Skype SMS fee. You should note that you can also connect to Skype using 3G while abroad, but if you do so your carrier may charge you.
The file transfer feature works like this: when you need to do some work on the go for example, but you do not have the file stored on your mobile device, simply ask one of your Skype contacts to send it to you; edit the file and send it back. nd if you are worried that your file might end up in the wrong hands, Skype has made it sure to emphasize that it will keep your sensitive documents “safe from prying eyes,” regardless if you send the aforementioned file over a secure or unsecured WiFi network.
If you would like to get Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile-powered smartphones, a download location is available here.
