I dub today Yahoo! Thursday, the day when we here at FindMySoft will shift our focus on the Sunnyvale-based company and its products – or at least the news department will focus on Yahoo! And we kick off “Yahoo! Thursday” with the news that Yahoo! is getting even friendlier with Facebook.

Back in December 2009, Yahoo!’s Vice President of Communities, Jim Stoneham announced that in the first half of 2010 Yahoo! will be deeply integrating Facebook Connect across its properties. As part of this effort we already saw the following: the option to add the email addresses of all your Facebook friends to your Yahoo! Contacts list (see here).

Yahoo! is getting even friendlier with Facebook by having recently announced the following: the option to update your Facebook status directly from Yahoo! Mail. Also, when you receive an email from one of your Facebook friends, you’ll be able to see that friend’s Facebook profile photos. The only catch is that this functionality has been rolled out to “select countries.”

“If you use Facebook, Yahoo! Mail is getting better for you! Yahoo! is putting a big focus on bringing you more social features, and […] is rolling out another handy way to connect with your friends. In select markets, we’re adding the ability to update your Facebook status right from Yahoo! Mail and see your friends’ Facebook profile photos when they email you,” commented a member of the Yahoo! Mail team.

To take advantage of this functionality you must link your Yahoo! and Facebook accounts – you can do this by clicking the “Add to Facebook” link in the status section on the What’s New page in Yahoo! Mail. Once you’re done, you will be able to update your Facebook status from within Yahoo! Mail and view Facebook profile pictures when you receive an email from a Facebook friend.

In related news, the latest version of Yahoo! Contacts has an Address Book that can automatically update itself. Whenever one of your contacts updates his or her Yahoo! Contact details, your Yahoo! Contacts is updated automatically to include the new info (see here).
