Sunnyvale-based American public corporation Yahoo! has released two new applications for the Apple-developed mobile devices the iPhone and the iPod Touch. The new apps are Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search and Yahoo! Search. The first app, Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search, works like this: you draw a shape on a map and the application presents you with local restaurants within that location. For the time being the app only reveals local restaurants; in the future other local categories will be added. For now the app is only available for restaurant searches in the U.S; in the future it will cover other regions of the world.

The Yahoo! Search does just what the name suggests – it allows you to search the web. As Yahoo’s Lucas Mast explained, the app is “maximized for speed” and “revolves around an innovative interface that delivers contextually relevant results quickly and efficiently.” The app comes with features such as voice search, intelligent search history, localized query suggestions, and tightly embedded maps. The app is available to iPhone and iPod Touch users in 22 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Yahoo! Sketch-a-Search can be downloaded straight from the App Store here.

Moving on to Yahoo! Contacts, earlier this month the development team at Yahoo! announced that users can add the email addresses of all their Facebook friends to the Yahoo! Contacts list. Now they’ve come out to announce that the latest version of Yahoo! Contacts has an Address Book that can automatically update itself. Whenever one of your contacts updates his or her Yahoo! Contact details, your Yahoo! Contacts is updated automatically to include the new info – granted of course your contact choose to share the information.

This feature works both ways. You can also ensure all your contacts have the most up-to-date information about you. In this regard you must go to Yahoo! Contacts, click Share my info, then click Start Sharing.

“Your friends get your latest contact information without having to lift a finger!” commented Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Mail, Rick Pal. “First, they will get a Yahoo! Update notifying them that your contact information has changed. Next, when they go to look you up in Yahoo! Contacts, they will see the contact information you gave them access to and the last time it was updated (don’t worry, none of the information you have for them will ever be over-written).”

Last but not least, Yahoo’s popular instant messagin application Yahoo! Messenger has been updated. The latest version is 10.0.0.1258. If you’re already using Yahoo! Messenger, you can easily get it up opening the main Yahoo! Messenger window, clicking Help, then clicking Check for Updates. Alternatively you can just download it here.

Yahoo! Messenger 10.0.0.1258 comes with “several security enhancements” and Delicious.com integration. When you send or receive a web link, hover your mouse over it. You ill see a small “Boobkmark” button appear – this button allows you to bookmark the URL to Delicious.

“If you already have an account with Delicious, you may need to first visit Delicious.com to link it to your Yahoo! ID. But if you’re new to Delicious, you can create your account using your Yahoo! ID right in Yahoo! Messenger. Delicious is not just a place to store your bookmarks, it’s also a place to see what’s hot and trending and find other Yahoo! users that are into your favorite websites. But you can use Delicious just as a private place to store your bookmarks. When saving a link, just click the “Mark as Private” box,” explained Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon.
