As always, come Friday and all we have on our mind is the rest, relaxation and fun we will have over the weekend – not this time because it is the last one until Christmas, and you might want to do some last moment shopping. It is thus vital that you keep your strength up and not work too much today – queue in this week’s timewaster, Frost Bite 2, a game in which the goal is to get to top of the mountain while fighting all sorts of threats and dangers.

Why did I choose this game? Frost Bite 1 was first released back in 2007; now we see a second release, just in time for Christmas. If you think about it for a little bit, you could compare this to the browser news we’ve seen this week. Some of the most popular software developers out there have issued updates for their applications in order to increase the level of protection against the usual threats and nasties you may encounter while browsing the web.

Mozilla has recently updated Firefox 3.0 and Firefox 2.0; Opera has patched some security problems with Opera 9.63; Microsoft ha addressed the critical vulnerability in Internet Explorer with an out-of-date-patch, and Google is serving up Google Chrome as default in Google pack, even though its password security is shot. Keeping with the update thing we’ve got going in here, it must be said that this week we saw some operating system updates and new releases: in the Linux world we saw openSUSE 11.1 and Linux Mint 6, and Apple updated Mac OS X 10.5.6 and thus broke the iPhone jailbreak. Even Yahoo got in on the game by putting out a new toolbar and upgrading Yahoo Mail.

Getting back to Frost Bite 2, it must be said that it is now significantly different from the previous version: it is still just as fun as Frost Bite 1, but it now features some bonus levels and better controls. The only way for you to experience this would be to play the game, and you can do so here.
