Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update May Crash your System

At the beginning of this week, Apple released an update for the Leopard, Mac OS X 10.5.6, and for the Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4.11. While this update is meant to address some security and stability issues within the operating system, the word on the web is that in doing so you may very well crash your machine. In related Mac news, it seems that with Mac OS X 10.5.6, Apple is also annoying people that want to jailbreak the iPhone 3G.

Apple issued Mac OS X 10.5.6 in order to address problems such as the ones with Adobe Flash Player plug-in, Internet sharing denial of service, and Calculator issues when setting the language to German. For some users, the update did not bring a more stable and safer OS – instead it caused their Bluetooth connection to go belly-up, caused the USB ports to stop functioning, and left users in complete silence when the speakers stopped working. Well, this is not entirely accurate; there were some sounds to listen to, just that they came in the form of popping noises when booting up the system.

But wait it gets better. Here are some other issues that Mac OS X 10.5.6 updaters are reporting: mouse stops working (Mighty Mouse indeed), system freezes on “configuring setup” screen, Suitcase does not open, AirPort wireless network does not connect, login password is not recognized (endless login cycle), etc. To be completely fair towards Apple, the Mac OS X 10.5.6 update is also reported to work just fine for other users, but this does not change the fact that people are upset.

Here is what I am talking about: “This is why I decided to cross-over to 'The Darkside' and purchase a Dell. Once upon a time, nothing was better than an Apple. Then I bought a new [MacBook Pro]... actually two of them, and all of them died, trying to do what I do with simple ease with my homebuilt PC's,” says a post on Apple Discussions .
