You expect computer monitors to offer superior picture quality, to be great for gaming, to have a pleasant design, and to be energy efficient. But you don’t expect them to…drum rolls please...wirelessly charge your mobile phone, do you?

You can expect precisely that from Samsung’s SE370, the first monitor in the world to come with an integrated wireless charging function for mobile devices. A circular charging area is integrated into the monitor’s stand; place a compatible mobile phone on this circular area and it will be charged. It really is as simple as that!

Declutter your desk, do away with annoying cables

As I write this, I’m charging my Samsung phone using my USB cable. There are enough cables around here, I don’t need another one! I want a clutter-free desk and I’d gladly do away with unnecessary cables needed to charge my mobile.

Samsung’s SE370 is of great help in this regard. You can put away your cables, because this monitor can wirelessly charge your phone.

“As a leader in both mobile devices and display technology, Samsung has combined our knowledge of consumer behavior and needs in these areas to create the SE370 wireless charging monitor,” said Dave Das, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America, Inc. “With consumers increasingly relying on mobile devices, we are proud to offer them the ability to declutter their workspace and use mobile devices simultaneously. As an industry-first, this monitor transforms the way users see and utilize their workspace, enabling them to work in a smarter and more efficient manner.”

The SE370 works with compatible mobile devices

You’ll need a phone that supports wireless charging – obviously.

If your mobile uses the leading Qi wireless charging standard, which is one of the most readily-available global interface standards, you can charge it by placing it on the monitor’s circular charging area.

The SE370 also works with Samsung Galaxy devices that feature wireless charging, like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge or the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5. It even works with the circular Gear S2 smartwatch.

To sum it up, if you have a recent Samsung Galaxy, a Gear S2 watch, or a device that uses a compatible wireless battery cover, you can charge it with the SE370.

Speaking about wireless charging…

I have to remind you about IKEA’s home furniture range for wireless charging. Since people have been asking for simple and efficient charging methods, Samsung released Galaxy devices that feature universally compatible embedded wireless charging technology. And IKEA started building wireless charging technology directly into its home furnishings. An IKEA lamp for example can wirelessly charge your mobile while you take a nap.

“Through research and home visits, we know that people hate cable mess. They worry about not finding the charger and running out of power. Our new innovative solutions, which integrate wireless charging into home furnishings, will make life at home simpler,” said Jeanette Skjelmose, Business Area Manager Lighting and Wireless Charging, at IKEA.

The SE370 has lots more to offer, apart from wireless charging

The fact that it can wirelessly charge your phone is the industry-first feature. There are plenty of other features the SE370 monitor has to offer. Here’s a list:
  • Superior picture quality for optimal viewing and usability. Enjoy crystal clear and vibrant imagery and experience wide-viewing angles of 178 degrees.
  • Eye Saver Mode makes the viewing experience less strenuous on the eyes. It sets the optimum picture quality suitable for eye relaxation based on the content being viewed.
  • The Eco Saving Plus function reduces screen brightness for increased energy efficiency.
  • Multiple functions to provide an immersive gaming experience.

The SE370 monitor is available in 23.6- and 27-inch configurations

The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 23.6-inch Samsung SE370 monitor is $249.99. It is available for pre-order right now on Newegg. According to the website, you’ll get your monitor in November, 2015.
