The New Samsung Pay Mobile Payment Service

When Samsung announced that it entered an agreement to acquire LoopPay, I was wondering if this means that Samsung is looking to challenge Apple and its Apple Pay mobile payment service. Turns out that this is indeed the case: the new Samsung Pay mobile payment service will launch on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the United States during the second half of the year.

Samsung Pay will work with NFC (Near Field Communication) and with MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission). Samsung Pay will will have near universal acceptance; it has the potential of being accepted at approximately 30 million merchant locations worldwide.

“Samsung Pay will reinvent how people pay for goods and services and transform how they use their smartphones,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “The secure and simple payment process, coupled with our robust partner network, makes Samsung Pay a truly game-changing service that will bring value to consumers and our partners in the ecosystem.”

IKEA’s New Wireless Charging Collection

The new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge feature universally compatible embedded wireless charging technology (fully embedded WPC and PMA certified wireless charging technology). This means that they work with any wireless pad available in the market that supports WPC and PMA standards.

The news is that Samsung and IKEA want you to enjoy a plug-free charging environment at home. Samsung’s wireless charging technology is matched by IKEA’s wireless charging collection – furnishings that have wireless charging technology built into them. The wireless charging collection will be available in Europe and North America in April 2015 followed by a global roll-out.

“Through research and home visits, we know that people hate cable mess. They worry about not finding the charger and running out of power. Our new innovative solutions, which integrate wireless charging into home furnishings, will make life at home simpler”, said Jeanette Skjelmose, Business Area Manager Lighting and Wireless Charging, at IKEA.

“Mobile devices have become a natural part of our lives – our ability to pair a simple wireless charging process with IKEA’s household furniture gives everyone the opportunity to more comfortable and conveniently enjoy their smartphone experience like never before,” said Jean-Daniel Ayme, Deputy President of European Telecommunication Operations at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung strives to deliver the best mobile experiences for consumers, especially in the comfort of their own home or office, and we have a long-term commitment to innovative charging solutions.”
