Our Final Goodbyes Go to Yahoo! Messenger 6.0 through 7.5
The official date when Yahoo! will pull support for Yahoo! Messenger versions 6.0 through 7.5 has officially been announced by the team behind the popular instant messaging (IM) application. If you are a regular visitor of the FindMySoft news section, this might not exactly be new(s) to you. We’ve already announced the fact that Yahoo! will drop YM 6.0 though 7.5 back in June; then the topic once more came to light when the retirement date was pushed back a bit. Now we’ve come to the end of the road with this final and crucial piece of info:
Yahoo! Messenger 6.0 through 7.5 will be retired on the final day of September. “The date for retirement has been set for September 30, 2009,” confirmed Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon. “This means that if you are currently using a version of Yahoo! Messenger that is below 8.0, you will no longer be able to sign in and use it after September 30,” she continued.
The upside is that you can trade up. You could for example install Yahoo! Messenger 9 on your Windows-powered machine – we’re already covered a detailed tutorial on how to install Yahoo! Messenger 9 in our brand new How To section. While you’re at it, check out these Yahoo! Messenger 9 installation options that you need to know about.
Or you could take it one step further and install the newly released Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta . As the Beta points out, work on this particular version is not finished just yet. Still, there are some reasons that should persuade you – top 10 reasons to be more precise.
If you do not want to install one of these Yahoo! Messenger versions on your computer, there are several other options at your disposal. The IM application is readily accessible online – there’s Yahoo! Messenger for the web, Yahoo! Messenger integrated in Yahoo! Mail, and Yahoo! Messenger as part of the brand new Yahoo! homepage.
If you would like to get Yahoo! Messenger 9.0, you can download it straight from FindMySoft here.
If you would like to get Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta, you can download it straight from Yahoo! here.
