Three different versions of the Yahoo! developed Yahoo! Messenger application for three different operating system have seen the light of day recently: there’s Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone 1.2.2, Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta and Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta for those of you using the Microsoft developed Windows operating system. If you want to know what new bits and pieces these IM apps bring to the table, check out this article. If you want to know why you should use download and install Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta on your machine, here 10 reasons you should do so:

Reason #1 High quality video calls within the IM window
The 1:1 webcam feature has been redesigned from the ground up. You can have a webcam chat with a Yahoo! Messenger contact in full-screen and with high quality audio. On top of that you can swap video windows, position video windows one next to another, mute a call or put a call on hold.

Reason #2 Y! Updates
This is an alternative contacts list view that displays a stream of updates, in real-time of course. The stream of updates incorporates things like status message updates, Twitter updates, what other contacts are listening to on Last.fm and so on.

Reason #3 New ways to arrange your contacts
You can now arrange your Yahoo! Messenger contacts by availability or by recent activity.

Reason #4 Support for 16 different languages
When you want to sign into Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta, on the sign-in screen there’s a language menu that lets you pick from 16 different languages.
You can switch from one language to another from Messenger -> Preferences -> Language.

Reason #5 Brand new Insider

Reason #6 New IM window icons
The icons in the IM window have been updated

Reason #7 In Y! Updates view, when you IM a contact about his last update, the update is displayed inline in the IM window.

Reason #8 Enhanced Yahoo! Updates controls
You get to select which updates you will see. You get to choose if updates from certain contacts will be displayed or not. Just go to Messenger -> Preferences -> Yahoo! Updates.

Reason #9 You enjoy putting new software applications to the test.

Reason #10 Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta seems like a better alternative than version 9.0 Definitely a better alternative than versions 6.0 through 7.5 for which Yahoo! no longer provides support.

Okay, so reason 9 and 10 are somehow connected. Cut me some slack, it’s Friday and I want to kick off the weekend by playing around with Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta.
