Top Searches on Yahoo in 2016
The top two searches last year were Bobbi Kristina Brown (the defunct daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston) at #1 and Apple’s iPhone at #2. But with 2016 being an election year, it’s no surprise to see that the top searches are for the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and President-elect Donald Trump. It’s also no surprise to see that several of the year’s top news stories are related to the election.

Sadly though, Prince isn’t the only one who passed away this year. We also lost musician David Bowie and a lot of actors, as IMDb points out on this In Memoriam page. Speaking about celebrities and IMDb, the movie website recently unveiled its Top 10 Stars of 2016 list, presenting the celebrities that consistently ranked highest on the IMDb weekly STARmeter chart throughout 2016. The list is quite different from Yahoo’s top 10 celebrities list.

Last year, Yahoo had two separate top 10 lists, one for male and another for female celebrities. Scott Disick, Lamar Odom and Tiger Woods took the top 3 spots on the male celebrities list. Bobbi Kristina Brown, Caitlyn Jenner and Kendal Jenner took the top 3 spots on the female celebrities list. Kim Kardashian took the #5 spot on the list.
Top 10 Music Artists on Yahoo Music in 2016
David Bowie passed away in his New York City apartment on January 10, 2016, just two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his twenty-fifth and final studio album, Blackstar. Bowie had been diagnosed with liver cancer 18 months earlier, but did not share this with the public. Since he did not want a funeral, Bowie was cremated on January 12.

X-Men Apocalypse, the latest installment in the series of movies that are based on the X-Men franchise, had a budget of $178 million. Although the movie scored a rather low 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, that didn’t stop people from going to see it. Consequently, the movie made close to $544 at the box office. It grossed $155.4 million in North America and $388.5 million worldwide.

The year’s top highlight on Yahoo Finance was Apple’s unveiling of the new iPhone 7. The smartphone comes with a new advanced camera, improved battery life, a better processor, water and dust resistance, and no headphone jack.
