How to Use Your Old Headphones with the New iPhone 7

Just because Apple removed the headphone jack, it doesn’t mean you have to throw your old headphones away and get the $159 wireless AirPods.

The truth of the matter is that you can still use your old headphones with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. You just need to get the adapter or the dock presented below.

Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter

By using this adapter, you can connect devices that use a 3.5 mm audio plug (your headphones) to your Lightning devices (your iPhone).

The headphones jack goes in the end on the left; and the Lightning connector on the right goes into your iPhone. Simple, right?

This adapter will be bundled with the iPhone 7. It’s also available for purchase from Apple for $9.

iPhone Lightning Dock

This dock’s main purpose is to charge and sync your iPhone. The cool thing is that it also has a headphone jack, meaning that you can use it to listen to music while your iPhone is charging.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, recommended this product in an email to a customer who inquired about listening to music while the iPhone 7 is charging. See below.

The iPhone Lightning Doc is available for purchase from Apple for $49. Five colors are available: black, space gray, silver, gold, and rose gold.

What if I have Lightning-based headphones?

The products presented so far let you plug in headphones that have a traditional jack. What if you don’t have such headphones? What if you got yourself some Lightning-based headphones?

If that’s what you have, then your biggest problem is not being able to listen to music while your iPhone is charging. To solve this problem, you need Belkin's new Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar.

It’s basically a Lightning-port splitter, and that’s great, because you can listen to music while your iPhone is charging.

Belkin’s adapter is available for purchase for $39.99.
