Skype Prepping an Update for Mac Version
If you are a Mac user and Skype’s recent announcements made you feel left out, here is something that will certainly cheer you up. The company has recently announced that it is prepping an update for its Skype for Mac version as well. Skype is preparing to add group video calling to the Mac version of Skype as well, freshen up its looks, and improve its functionality.
“You may have noticed that we've just launched a new version of Skype for Windows, and I wanted to reassure you that our previous statement still stands: we're working hard to deliver group video calling to the Mac as quickly as possible,” announced in a blog post Skype’s Peter Parkes.
Parkes then went on to say that the impending Skype for Mac update will completely overhaul the application. Its functionality will be enhanced and its looks will be improved.
This has certainly been a busy month for Skype. The company rolled out the Skype for Android app, updated the Skype for iPhone app, and released Skype 5.0 for Windows.
The Skype for Android app, which works with Android 2.1 or later, allows you to do all the bits you can do on the desktop version of Skype, like free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi or 3G (only WiFi in the US), cheap calls to landline and mobile phones, send and receive instant messages, see when Skype contacts are online, receive calls to your Skype online number. Furthermore the app lets you import names and numbers to the Skype application from your Android-powered device’s native address book. Skype for Android can also sync contacts between Skype and the native address book and after synchronization place Skype calls directly from the native address book.
The latest Skype for iPhone version, mainly version 2.1.2, comes with better event notifications, new looks for Skype settings, an a new “Go Offline” settings option that allows you to choose the app’s behavior when it runs in the background (you can set it up so the app will “go offline” after a specific amount of time).
Skype 5.0 for Windows comes with group video calling for up to 10 people (this features is still in Beta), fresh new looks and last but not least, Facebook integration. Skype users who are signed into Facebook can see their Facebook News Feed in Skype, post status updates, sync their status updates with their Skype mood message, comment on a friend’s update or wall post, like a friend’s update or wall post, call and send text messages to Facebook friends.
