The Yahoo! Messenger iPhone app has changed its version number from 1.2 to 1.3. Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone 1.3 is an update that comes with features users have been asking for. You’ll get things like the ability to change your display image from within the app. You can take a new photo or use a photo stored on the iPhone as your display image. All you have to do is tap Settings -> My Contact Details.

Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone 1.3 also comes with fixes for some bugs that caused display image update problems. In the past you had to sign out, then sign in again to see an updated display image. Now when one of your Yahoo! Messenger contacts updates the display image, it will be changed automatically in the contacts list.

Version 1.3 comes with an enhanced file sharing feature. To be more precise, you can use Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone to send and receive photos and videos. You can use the app to receive photos, videos (.mov, .mp4), MS Office documents (.doc, .ppt, .xls), text files (.txt) and PDF files (.pdf). The files you send and receive must not not be over 15MB.

Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone v. 1.3 is better suited to fight spam as well. Senior Product Manager with Yahoo!, Sarah Bacon, explains: “To help combat IM spam when you’re on your iPhone, we also added a preference that allows you to ignore messages from people that are not on your Yahoo! Messenger contact list. To set this preference, tap on the Settings icon and look for “Privacy” in the Options section. The preference is turned off by default, so if you want to ignore people not on your list, be sure to go into Preferences and update the setting after you install this latest version.”

Last but not least, Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone v. 1.3 adds support for the following languages: French, Italian, German and Spanish.

If you already have Yahoo! Messenger installed on your iPhone, here is what you have to do to apply the update:
- Tap the App Store icon on the device’s screen
- Search for Yahoo! Messenger
- Download and install version 1.3 of the app
If you have an update alert for the Yahoo! Messenger app, then you don’t need to do all that searching.
