The development team behind Yahoo! iPhone dedicated instant messaging (IM) app has announced the release of Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone version 1.2.3. Unlike the updates that Yahoo! released in the past, such as version 1.2.2 or even 1.2.1, this particular update does not bring anything new to the table. It is an update that had to be rolled out in order to address a very peculiar and very annoying problem.

Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon explains: “This weekend, we released an update for the Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone app. This latest version fixes the issue that some users were having with the contact list disappearing upon sign in. Thank you for your patience while we worked on the issue.”

If you already have Yahoo! Messenger installed on your iPhone, here is what you have to do to apply the update:
- Tap the App Store icon on the device’s screen
- Search for Yahoo! Messenger
- Download and install version 1.2.3 of the app
If you have an update alert for the Yahoo! Messenger app, then you don’t need to do all that searching.

Those of you who do not have Yahoo! Messenger installed on your iPhone, here are some of the things you are missing out on:
- Improved Buzz notification sound and IM notification sound.
- Vibrating notification.
- Push Notification (see how this works here)
- Address Book integration.
- Stay online for up to 2 weeks (you appear as online even though you tuned off the app – when someone contacts you , a Push Notification will be sent your way).
- Search is integrated with Contacts app
- Instant Messaging: the main function of Yahoo! Messenger that allows you to socialize with your friends via IM.
- Share Photos, be it a photo you already have stored on your iPhone, or a photo you took just now.
- Stealth Settings: stay invisible when you do not want others to see you, select which users can see when you are available.
- Custom status message: type in whatever you want, including a web link, and set it as your online status.
- Recent conversations archive
- Landscape keyboard mode
- Report a Problem feature
