“Nokia X will bring millions of customers around the world their first true smartphone experience,” says Bryan Biniak, Vice President, Developer Experience at Nokia. “With the Opera browser pre-installed, customers will be equipped with a high-quality, intuitive mobile web browser from the moment they turn on their device.”

I remind you that Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Nokia’s Devices and Services business. It goes without saying that Microsoft is not interested in promoting Google’s Android mobile operating system.

Frank X. Shaw, Corporate Vice President of Communications at Microsoft, explained that the acquisition has not gone through yet. Consequently Nokia and Microsoft operate as two independent companies. This means that Nokia is still free to launch any device it wants, even Android-powered ones.

Shaw pointed out that Microsoft’s primary smartphone strategy remains Windows Phone. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will pull the plug or keep the Android-powered Nokia X family once the acquisition goes through.
