Launch Dates for Samsung Pay, Samsung's New Mobile Payment Service
Samsung Pay, Samsung’s new mobile payment service, is close to making its debut. And once it does so, once it’s available to the public, you can forget about toting around a bulky wallet. You’ll be able to pay for stuff with Samsung Pay, pretty much anywhere.
“[Samsung Pay] will be accepted almost everywhere, on day one,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Pay will launch in Korea on August 20, 2015, will become available in the U.S. on September 28, 2015, and soon after that it will be released in the U.K., in Spain, and in China.
Samsung Pay – Main Features
“The future of mobile payments has arrived,” said InJong Rhee, EVP of Samsung Electronics, Global Head of Samsung Pay. “We are partnering with card networks, issuers and acquirers, and Samsung Pay will also be the first to support contactless payment for store-branded credit cards. The list of partners will only grow.”
The new Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 smartphones that Samsung unveiled at the Unpacked 2015 event in New York will feature Samsung Pay. Both devices will support Samsung Pay out-of-the-box.
A free software upgrade will be released mid-August to enable Samsung Pay on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices in the U.S. and Korea. Select U.S. users of Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note5 will be able to participate in a Beta trial from August 25 ahead of the September 28 launch.

Samsung Pay – Main Features

- Make payments anywhere – Samsung Pay works with most existing point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Samsung Pay works with both MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) and NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies.
