Google just announced that its Inbox email app plays nice with tablets now – Apple’s iPad tablet or an Android-powered tablet. Google also announced that Inbox now provides support for Mozilla’s Firefox and Apple’s Safari web browser. That’s on top of Google’s own Chrome web browser. Head over to inbox.google.com to sign in.

The one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that you need an invite to start using the Inbox email app. Send an email to inbox@google.com if you want to request an invite.

Google introduced Inbox, “the inbox that works for you.” back in October 2014. The search engine giant explained at the time that if you request and get an invite, you will get to play with the following features:

Inbox by Gmail – Main Features
  • Bundles – Inbox takes similar messages and bundles them together. Purchase receipts are bundled with other purchase receipts, bank statements with other bank statements, promos with other promos and so on. This is similar to Gmail’s categories.
  • Create your own bundles – obviously, you are free to create your own bundles.
  • Highlights – you don’t have to open messages, because Inbox highlights the important parts. To help you out as much as possible, Inbox will also display useful info that isn’t in the email. If the email is about a trip for example, Inbox can display useful info like the real-time status of your flight.
  • Reminders – create custom to-dos and Inbox will make sure you remember to do them. Just as with Highlights, Inbox displays handy info that will help you get things done. This is called Assists. If you created a reminder about calling a store for example, Assists will get the store’s phone number and will tell you if the store is open.
  • Snooze – you can snooze messages and reminders. Snooze until later today, snooze until tomorrow, snooze until next week, and more.
  • All your stuff – since Inbox runs on Gmail, all your stuff from Gmail is ready to be used with Inbox.
You can use Inbox on your iPhone or iPad. Just grab the email app from the App Store here.
You can also use Inbox on your Android smartphone or tablet. Go get the email app from Google Play here.
