Yahoo! Messenger 10 has been around for some time now – since August if memory serves me right. But it was available as a Beta, which meant that it could prove to be a bit buggy. Only Yahoo! Messenger enthusiasts, early adopters and testers rushed to get it. Regular users, although enticed to get v. 10, stuck with Yahoo! Messenger 9.0. Now its time for these users to upgrade to Yahoo! Messenger 10 as the final, stable version of the instant messaging application has been released.

Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon: “Thanks to all of you who tried out Yahoo! Messenger 10 during the Beta period and provided feedback about your experience. Yahoo! Messenger 10 is no longer in Beta. You can download the final version from [here]. This latest version (10.0.0.1102) incorporates many bug fixes, including some related to our new video call feature. We’ve also improved the overall stability of the product.

Yahoo! Messenger 10 highlights:
- Works with Windows 7.
- High quality video calls.
- Y! Updates, an alternative contacts list view that displays a stream of updates, in real-time.
- The option to arrange Yahoo! Messenger contacts by availability or by recent activity.
- Enhanced language support. On the sign-in screen there’s a language menu that lets you pick from 16 different languages. Alternatively you can switch from one language to another from Messenger -> Preferences -> Language.
- Enhanced Yahoo! Insider that encompasses the following: Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! news, Yahoo! Weather, and Yahoo! Search.
TIP: to learn how to disable the Insider popup, read
this tutorial.
- Updated IM window icons.
- Enhanced Yahoo! Updates controls that let you choose if updates from certain contacts will be displayed or not.
- If you make a call to a friend and he does not pick up within 20 seconds, the call will be automatically terminated.
- If your internet connection cannot support a full video call, it is downgraded to audio-only.

“As with any new release, we welcome your feedback about what’s working well for you and what’s not. After using Yahoo! Messenger 10 for a bit, go to the Help menu and select “Send Feedback” to get started,” added Sarah Bacon.
