Riff Is Facebook's New Video Collaboration Tool

Make videos collaboratively – that is the idea behind Riff, a new Facebook Creative Labs app that is available for iOS and Android.

Riff works something like this: you get the ball rolling by shooting and posting a video; your friends can watch the video and they can choose to add to it. A friend’s clip will be added to your original video, then another clip will be added, then another one, and so on and so forth.

Riff – Main Features
  • Create videos – pick a topic, shoot a video, and then post it to Riff so that others can view it and add to it.
  • View videos – you can view videos posted by your friends.
  • Add to videos – if you post a video, friends can add their own clips to it. If you want to contribute to a friend’s video, you can add a clip to it.
  • Share videos – share the videos you posted, share the videos you added to, share the videos you found on Riff.
  • Featured videos – if you’re looking for inspiration, check out the videos featured by the Riff team.
iOS users can get Riff from Apple’s App Store for free. The app requires iOS 8.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Android users can get Riff from Google Play for free. The app requires Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or newer.

Riff is a Facebook Creative Labs product. Facebook Creative Labs is the place where Facebook crafts new apps to support the diverse ways people want to connect and share. They’ve already crafted Paper, an app that helps you explore and share stories from friends and the world around you, Rooms, an app that lets you create rooms for the things you like, and Facebook Groups, an app that lets you see all your Facebook groups in one place and lets you easily stay in touch with groups of people.

Getting back to Riff, here are a couple of things you can’t do with the app: edit and upload videos (you have to shoot them right then and there); like or comment on videos.
