Back in April 2014, I presented Avast GrimeFighter, a tool that can be used to clean, secure, and optimize a Windows PC. Officer Pete leads a whole team of minions that will check your PC and uncover a variety of problems.

Today, it is my great pleasure to announce that Avast made the GrimeFighter application available for Android mobiles. You can use it to remove data and free storage space on your Android device.

GrimeFighter for Android – Main Features
  • Safe Clean – with just one tap you can clean up unnecessary data, system cache, gallery thumbnails, installation files, and residual files.
  • Detailed overview – files are grouped into categories so that you can get a detailed overview and see what kind of data takes up the most space on your Android. You can then easily get rid of the data you don’t need.
  • Transfer to Dropbox – free up storage space by transferring data to the Dropbox cloud service. Data stored in the cloud can be accessed from anywhere, at any time.
  • Uninstall apps – apps that you never use do nothing but waste storage space. You can easily uninstall them.
"Many Android users cite limited storage as one of their main concerns, but most don’t know how to fix the problem without deleting the applications or files that they love," said Jude McColgan, president of Mobile at Avast. "Avast GrimeFighter is a simple-to-use solution for Android users to manage their device storage, so they can save the data that matters to them, and enjoy better performance thanks to newly-cleared device storage. Unlike some of our competitors, we don’t recommend the removal of competing products – that only serves the interest of the app developer and not the customer."

GrimeFighter for Android is available for download on Google Play. Please note that the app requires Android 4.0 or newer to run.

Additional information about GrimeFighter is available here (PC version) and here (Android version).

In related news, you may want to know that Avast recently rolled out Avast Battery Saver, an Android app that promises to boost battery life by up to 7 hours.

In further related news, Avira rolled out Android Optimizer, an app that promises to extend battery life, boost performance, free up memory, and protect your privacy.
