Dodge Annoying Calls with Avast Call Blocker, Now Out of Beta

Avast Call Blocker, the iOS app that Avast unveiled a couple of months ago, has graduated out of Beta. You no longer have to request Beta access to use the app. It is available to anyone who is fed up with getting unwanted calls from telemarketers and spammers.

"Avast Call Blocker is the first line of defense to protect your valuable time," says Gagan Singh, senior vice president and general manager of mobile at Avast. "We’ve created an easy to use application that protects users from annoying calls without sacrificing privacy."

Avast Call Blocker automatically blocks telemarketing and unsolicited calls

Remember the first Men In Black movie? And more to the point, the part when we find out that the MiB headquarters works on Centurian time, where the day has 37 hours? Sometimes, I wish we would adopt Centurian time as well, because there’s never enough time to get everything done.

With work, taking care of the household, going to the gym (sometimes), playing video games, and spending quality time with the missus, there’s just no time to waste. And when I somehow have some time to waste, I like to do something enjoyable. The last thing I want to do is waste time on an unwanted call from a telemarketer.

That’s where Avast Call Blocker comes in. By using advanced machine learning technology and an extensive spam phone number database, it can identify spam numbers. Then it either warns you not to pick up because it’s a spam call or it automatically blocks spam calls.

Avast Call Blocker lets you block individual numbers

Blacklists work like this: once a number has been added to the list, said number will be blocked. Avast Call Blocker lets you create a blacklist, meaning that you can use the app to block individual numbers.

If you got into a fight with your so-called friend Bob and you don’t ever want to speak with him again, just add Bob’s number to the blacklist. Avast Call Blocker will automatically block Bob’s calls, should he have the nerve to call you.

Avast Call Blocker does not collect your personal information

Call-blocking isn’t something new. Plenty of other apps offer this sort of functionality. The problem is that they require access to contact and personal information. Avast Call Blocker does not! Instead of accessing your contact info and collecting your personal information, it uses machine learning, an extensive telemarketing phone number database, and publicly available information to do its job.

"We understand that privacy continues to be a growing concern for people around the world and that there are few solutions available to help them avoid unwanted phone calls,” said Gagan Singh. "Avast Call Blocker gives iPhone users who are consistently annoyed by spam calls a practical solution to this growing problem. With convenient warnings, automatic call blocking and ‘blacklist’ feature, the app allows users to effectively block any and all unwanted calls — and it does so without sacrificing user privacy."

Avast Call Blocker is a premium, subscription-based app

Avast Call Blocker is a premium iOS app. This means it isn’t free! You can get the app for free from Apple’s App Store and you can use it for free for a month. But once that trial period is over, you will have to get a subscription. On the bright side, the subscription is a mere $9.99 per year.

Please note that Avast Call Blocker requires iOS 10 or newer. The app is compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.
