Yahoo! Mail celebrated the fact that it’s been around for 16 years now by revamping its interface. The email client has a new look for the default view and cool new themes to offer.

Yahoo! Mail also celebrated its sweet sixteen by introducing new features. Conversations is one of these new features. What it does is it groups emails with the similar subject. So if you send emails back and forth using the same subject line, they will be grouped together.

Yahoo! Mail Is 16!
People keeping track of these things will remember that Yahoo! Mail launched back in October, 1997. It is now October 2013, and that means Yahoo! Mail is 16-years-old. The sweet sixteen celebrations put the visual experience and on the functionality you get from Yahoo! Mail.

Yahoo! Mail Improves the Visual Experience
Visit Yahoo! Mail and you will be informed that you can personalize your Inbox with a theme. If you used the default theme and you choose to keep it, you will be presented with Yahoo! Mail’s updated interface. And if you choose to improve your visual experience, there are lost of cool themes to choose from.

“We redesigned Yahoo Mail to be more efficient, too. Things you do all of the time like search, starring, and deleting are now one-click actions that appear when you hover over an email. We also wanted to give you more breathing room in your inbox, so you can collapse the left-hand toolbar to be more productive,” commented Jeffrey Bonforte, SVP of Communication Products.

Yahoo! Mail Enhances Its Functionality As Well
As mentioned above, Yahoo! Mail’s sweet sixteen also focuses on the functionality you get from Yahoo! Mail. Here’s what’s new:
  • Conversations – this new feature groups messages with the same subject line. So if Bob from accounting send you an email, you reply, then Bob replies, and you reply a second time, all these emails will be grouped together.
  • Lots of storage space – you get 1TB of storage space for free.
  • Sync with your mobile – all updates from the web version are carried over to Yahoo! Mail for iOS, Android, and Windows 8.
  • Free Mail Plus features – disposable email addresses, enhanced filters, automatic message forwarding used to be available only to Mail Plus customers. Now they’re available for everyone.
