Wolfram Alpha Goes Social with Clip 'n Share
The team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, recently introduced a new, social-oriented feature called Clip 'n Share. What this new feature does is it lets Wolfram Alpha users share individual result pods on the social network of their choice – they can choose between Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and email.
The Clip 'n Share feature shows up when you hover the mouse over a result pod. Click it and Wolfram Alpha will ask you if you want to create a permanent shareable page and then it will ask you to pick one of the various supported social networks. As I’m sure you know, Wolfram Alpha displays several result pods for a query. You get to choose which one you want to share with others – you don’t have to share the entire query.
The nice thing about sharing result pods with friends is that they will get different results but at the same time they will see what you wanted to share. The Wolfram Alpha Team explains:
“If you share a link to a Wolfram|Alpha query like high temperature for today, each friend who clicks that link will get a different result, depending on the time and location it’s clicked. But Clip ’n Share lets you preserve and share your own personalized results, for a specific moment in time.
In related news, earlier this month Wolfram Alpha announced that it entered a partnership with Samsung with the aim of bringing its computational knowledge functionality to Samsung’s smartphones. The Wolfram Alpha knowledge base will be included in the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3 smartphones.
“We are happy to announce that we have partnered with Samsung to bring Wolfram|Alpha’s computational knowledge to Samsung smartphones. The new GALAXY S III and GALAXY Note will now include the Wolfram|Alpha knowledge base with S Voice and S Note applications,” announced the Wolfram Alpha team.
