Vista SP2 Release Scheduled for June 09
Microsoft, or the Redmond giant as some like to call it, has gone ahead and announced that it will release SP2 for its Vista OS next year, in June. Windows Vista was initially launched late January 2007, and the first service pack (SP1) was launched just one month later. Although SP1 was brought out at an alarmingly fast pace, the catch was that you had to wait until March to download it.
According to social media consultant Tim Raftery, Windows Vista, at the time of its launch in 07, was filled with bugs. We all pretty much knew that and consequently refused to abandon XP in favor of Vista. XP as well was plagued with bugs at the time of its launch, and it took two service packs to get it to run as smooth and trouble free as possible. We expect the same to occur with Windows Vista – since SP1 could not get rid of all the bugs, it is the job of SP2 to make this OS reliable.
As a rule of thumb Vista SP2 will hit the market some time before Windows 7. This means that the SP2 team is really feeling the pressure since Microsoft is pushing its Windows 7 team to get it ready for launch as soon as possible. But then again, they might not. Windows Vista has gotten so much bad press since its release that no one can blame Microsoft for wanting to put this behind them.
Releasing Vista SP2 and Windows 7 the same year might cause confusion amongst PC users. Since not all of them are IT connoisseurs, they might get confused in regard to which operating system to use. After all, Windows 7 will most likely include all the goodies you will find in Vista SP2.
A Beta version of Vista SP2 (as well as Windows Server 2008) has already started to circulate – a select group of testers have had the honor of receiving the software in order to put it through its paces.
