Samsung Electronics UK, in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company, just released an Android app called RE:Shakespeare.

It features 360-degree video footage from Much Ado About Nothing, short lecture clips on Shakespearean drama, and some interesting, interactive games.

“Shakespeare’s works are not only a great British treasure, they have also had a huge influence on literature around the world,” said Won-Pyo Hong, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Samsung Electronics. “That is why we launched this campaign: to use technology to help preserve the world’s cultural heritage, and at the same time inspire our customers by combining digital technology and classic literature.”

RE:Shakespeare – Main Features
  • Watch – view 2 scenes from Much Ado About Nothing shot in glorious 360-degrees.
  • Learn – watch some short lecture clips about Shakespearean drama, featuring David Tennant and a host of Royal Shakespeare Company experts.
  • Perform – take to the stage and perform in Much Ado About Nothing.
  • Play – take a hip-hop Shakespearean quiz, remix Shakespeare to Shlomo’s human beatbox, lip-sync with poet Indigo Williams’ Shakespearean love lines and put-downs.
  • Availability – RE:Shakespeare is available for Android Jelly Bean 4.3 or newer. Get it for free from Google Play or from Samsung Galaxy Apps.

Earlier this year, Samsung UK joined Pride Rediscovery, a program that aims to revitalize national pride by championing outstanding literary works. The launch of RE:Shakespeare for Android is part of this program. Samsung UK and the Royal Shakespeare company will encourage young people between the ages of 11 and 18 to get the app and enjoy a digital learning experience that will hopefully boost their interest in Shakespeare’s plays.
