With only a few days until the official release of Windows 8, Microsoft announced that the Windows 8 Pro DVD is available for pre-order at select retailers in the US.
Come the 26th of October, Windows 8 will be rolled out to the web and you will be able to upgrade to the new system online, via the Windows.com website, using the purpose-built Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. Microsoft will let you upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for the low price of $39.99 ERP if you’re one XP SP3, Vista, or 7. Until then, you can use the web for something else – to pre-order a Windows 8 Pro packaged DVD.
Microsoft announced on Friday that “starting today you can reserve a packaged DVD of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $69.99 USD ERP* (U.S.) at select retailers. When you receive your copy of the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, you’ll see that the packaging takes a fresh approach, in the reimagining of Windows. Your package will feature one of 5 vibrant illustrations.”
One of these “vibrant illustrations” is presented above. You can check out all 5 on Facebook here.
The select retailers mentioned above include Amazon.com, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot and the Microsoft Store.
There is a third day to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro: anyone who purchases an eligible Windows 7 PC between June 2, 2012 and January 31st, 2013, is entitled to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for the price $14.99.
