The team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, recently announced that an Android version of the Wolfram Alpha app will be rolled out to the public come October. The Wolfram Alpha iPhone app has been around since October 2009 – come October 2010, it will also be available for Android-powered devices.

“The Wolfram|Alpha App for Android will be available for $1.99 (US) on October 6, 2010 in the T-Mobile Channel for download on the G2, as well as globally through Android Market. The app is compatible with devices running Android 1.6 and later,” announced the Wolfram Alpha team.

The Wolfram Alpha for Android application will offer the following:

- The app is connected to Wolfram Alpha’s supercomputing cloud. This allows it to bring the Wolfram Alpha knowledge engine experience to the mobile user.
- It can be used by pretty much anyone, but the team at Wolfram Alpha highlighted these categories of users in particular: financial analysts, physicians, scientists, engineers, students, teachers, journalists, parents, economists, nutritionists, systems analysts, marketing managers, pilots, sportsmen.
- The app’s user interface is specially designed for the Android 1.6 and above. Consequently the app features specialized keyboards for math, charts and graphics adapted for the variety of Android screens, support for native voice input, and location awareness.
- Easily get an answer to all sorts of questions, spreading across countless domains.

“The Wolfram|Alpha App for Android delivers the full power of the Wolfram|Alpha computational knowledge engine, providing you with a massive knowledge base of factual information in the palm of your hand,” explained the Wolfram Alpha team. “With the T-Mobile G2, the Wolfram|Alpha app takes advantage of the blazing fast 4G speeds of T-Mobile’s network to get you answers in an instant. Combining the power of the G2 with the power of Wolfram|Alpha creates an extraordinary experience for knowledge on the go.”
