Windows Live Events Will Shut Down, Microsoft Announces
Windows Live Events, the online service provided by Microsoft as part of the Windows Live services, will be shut down in 2010. The service itself will be retired, but its functionality will live on in Windows Live Calendar, as the latter will take over Windows Live Events’ capability of providing a single location to plan and manage social events. Windows Live events, explained the Windows Live team, will be retired in stages.
“We understand that many of you have already been using Windows Live Events for a while, and so you may have some concerns. To make sure you have time to save any photos or files that are stored with your events, we’ll be retiring Events in phases. Starting in early September, 2009, you won’t be able to create new events using Windows Live Events. You’ll still be able to access and edit your existing events until 2010, and we encourage you to save your photos and files from your existing events before then,” explained the Windows Live team.
In case you do not know how to save your photos, here’s a crash reminder:
Log into events.live.com -> “View your events” -> click an event -> click “Photos” -> select a photo album -> click “More” -> “Download” -> “Download with Photo Gallery” -> select the photos you want to save -> click “Download”.
Here’s a crash reminder on how to save files as well:
On the left side of an event page, click “SkyDrive” -> select the folder entitled “Documents” -> select a file -> click “Download” -> save the file.
