Symantec Gets Top Honors for Environmental Practices

It’s nice to be considerate of others and considerate with the environment; at least that’s what I think. Seems like Symantec. Symantec, company that specializes in providing antivirus, antispyware, and internet security software solutions, seems to think along the same lines – it is also considerate with the environment.

Proof that Symantec is eco-friendly came from one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s oldest and most prestigious environmental recognition programs, program that made a name for itself due to its rigorous application and judging process. The program I am talking about is the 1990-initiated Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards.

Symantec won Acterra’s 2011 Business Environmental Award for large-company environmental sustainability. The award demonstrates that Symantec uses a model program that encompasses all three tenants of sustainability, mainly business processes, environment and social equity.

Christine Kohl-Zaugg, judging committee chair, Business Environmental Awards, had this to comments about Symantec winning the 2011 Business Environmental Award:
“Thanks to thoroughly integrated, solid and well-documented sustainability frameworks, processes and global programs, Symantec Corporation has mastered a rare achievement: It has successfully managed to fully embed sustainability into its business. Hallmarks of Symantec’s award-winning application includes exemplary leadership from top executives, combined with strong environmental programs such as green IT, aggressive greenhouse gas commitment, LEED certified green buildings, and committed green teams. A new leader in the sustainability arena, Symantec Corporation is a company to learn from.”

As you can imagine, Symantec was more than glad to receive the award. Here’s Cecily Joseph, director of Corporate Responsibility at Symantec, expressing Symantec’s joy:
“This is a significant achievement for Symantec, and we are very honored to be recognized for our global commitment to minimizing the environmental impacts of our business. In order for our environmental programs to be effective, sustainability must remain a corporate priority at the top levels of the company. We must maintain a commitment to continuous improvement and seek to encourage the participation of employees at all levels of the company. Recognition from renowned organizations like Acterra validates that Symantec is on the right path.”
