Microsoft Intros Skype for Business and the New Lumia 535
Microsoft Lync, Microsoft’s instant messaging client that was originally called Microsoft Office Communicator, will be rebranded as Skype for Business. Microsoft announced that the next version of Lync will be rolled out to the public in the first half of 2015. This new version will feature several changes: a new client experience, new server release, updates to the service in Office 365, and a new name – Skype for Business.
“We believe that Skype for Business will again transform the way people communicate by giving organizations reach to hundreds of millions of Skype users outside the walls of their business,” commented Gurdeep Pall, corporate vice president for Skype.

“Current Lync Server customers will be able to take advantage of these capabilities simply by updating from Lync Server 2013 to the new Skype for Business Server in their datacenters. No new hardware is required. For Office 365 customers, it’s even simpler. We’ll do the required updates. And because communications is mission-critical, this release meets a new bar for reliability and performance.”

Microsoft introduced the Lumia 535, a smartphone that features what Microsoft calls the “5x5x5 proposition” – 5 integrated Microsoft services, 5 megapixel front camera, 5” display.
“Lumia 535 comes with our ‘5x5x5’ proposition,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president for Phones at Microsoft. “Innovation should be available to everyone, and we are doing this through the very best integrated Microsoft services included and out of the box, a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera, and a spacious 5-inch qHD screen — all at an affordable price.”
The interesting thing about the Lumia 535 is that it is the first phone to drop the Nokia label. This smartphone stands out because it is the first Lumia handset to lose the Nokia label.

The Lumia 535 and Lumia 535 Dual SIM will begin rolling out to key markets in November.
Pricing for Lumia 535 and Lumia 535 Dual SIM will vary by market and operator; the estimated retail price will be around 110 euros before taxes and subsidies.

- Familiar Interface – the interface will feature the familiar Skype icons for calling, ending a call, and adding video.
- Skype Monitor – this feature keeps an active call visible in a small window even when you switch to another application.
- Lync’s Capabilities – one-touch call transferring and all of the other great capabilities that Lync users have grown accustomed to are built into Skype for Business.
- IM, Audio & Video Calling – with Lync you can send instant messages and you can make audio calls. With Skype for Business you will also be able to make video calls.
