We have more good news for Android users. fring has recently announced that fringOut is now available in its Android app. This is good news from two points of view:

1 – You can call any phone number in the world with fringOut and pay very little money for doing so. Calls start from 1c/min.
2 – fring also works on Android 1.6-powered devices, unlike the recently released Skype for Android. You can also make cheap calls with Skype for Android, but the application only works on Android 2.1 or later. As DonwloadSquad’s Lee Mathews put it, “that's a pretty big deal, since there are plenty of inexpensive Android devices out there that are still running 1.6.”

Getting back to fring for Android, there are thee ways you could get the application. You can get the application from the Android Market (that’s the first way), you can visit m.fring.com from your Android device but only after going to Settings > Applications and checking the box to allow ’unknown sources’ (that would be the second way), or you could simply scan the QR code presented below (that would be the third, and to my mind the easiest way to get fring for Android).

“fringOut is easy to use & super-convenient. Because the rates are so darn good, you’ll be calling everyone from your mobile phone. Get the latest fring version & sign up to fringOut! Then, simply choose the buddy you want to call (please include the international calling code) and dial away,” said fring on its official blog.

In related news, you may want to know that some other Android applications have been released this week.

The development team behind popular computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha rolled out the Wolfram Alpha for Android app. This app works on Android 1.6 or later, costs $1.99 and “puts Wolfram|Alpha’s growing repository of curated data, including over ten trillion data elements, and its library of tens of thousands of sophisticated computational models in the palm of your hand,” as the Wolfram Alpha team explained.

The Yahoo! Finance team rolled out the Yahoo! Finance app which provides you real-time quotes, a customizable stock watch list, access to Yahoo! Finance portfolios, company stats and news, and Tech Ticker videos.
