Back in September the development team behind Wolfram Alpha, the computational knowledge engine developed by British-born physicist and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram, announced to the world that come October 6 the Wolfram Alpha Android App would be released to the public.

“The Wolfram|Alpha App for Android will be available for $1.99 (US) on October 6, 2010 in the T-Mobile Channel for download on the G2, as well as globally through Android Market. The app is compatible with devices running Android 1.6 and later,” announced the Wolfram Alpha team back then.

Today is the 6th of October, so true to its word Wolfram Alpha released the Android app. The Wolfram Alpha Android app is available for download on the T-Mobile Channel or Android Market. As mentioned above, the app is compatible with Android 1.6 and later; it will set you back a mere $1.99.

For $1.99 you will get an app that can do the following:
- The app is connected to Wolfram Alpha’s supercomputing cloud. This allows it to bring the Wolfram Alpha knowledge engine experience to the mobile user.
- It can be used by pretty much anyone, but the team at Wolfram Alpha highlighted these categories of users in particular: financial analysts, physicians, scientists, engineers, students, teachers, journalists, parents, economists, nutritionists, systems analysts, marketing managers, pilots, sportsmen.
- The app’s user interface is specially designed for the Android 1.6 and above. Consequently the app features specialized keyboards for math, charts and graphics adapted for the variety of Android screens, support for native voice input, and location awareness.
- Easily get an answer to all sorts of questions, spreading across countless domains.

“The app puts Wolfram|Alpha’s growing repository of curated data, including over ten trillion data elements, and its library of tens of thousands of sophisticated computational models in the palm of your hand,” explained the Wolfram Alpha team.
