Free Wi-Fi Skype Access for Mac Users Only
Unlike Windows users who have Skype 4.0, people running Mac OS X on their machines have to go with Skype 2.8 for Mac which is still in Beta. The great thing about Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac is that it comes with Skype Access, a feature that lets you connect to Boingo’s Wi-Fi networks and surf the web. Normally you would have to pay for your online browsing using Skype Credit, but Skype has come out to announce a great offer – free surfing.
“As a special treat, we’re giving away 10,000 minutes of Skype Access completely free – simply connect as normal for up to 30 minutes at a time, and you won’t pay a thing. Skype Access is a super-cool feature only found (at the moment) in Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac. It lets you pay by the minute for WiFi using your Skype Credit – except, of course, that until the 10,000 minutes run out, you won’t actually pay at all,” explained Peter Parkes.
If the prospect of browsing the web for free over a period of 10,000 minutes (that’s almost a week on continuous browsing) sounds tempting, here are the requirements you must meet:
- You must have Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac installed on your machine. Get it here.
- You must have a valid and active Skype user name and account.
- You must find a Wi-Fi hotspot and connect to the Boingo network. Details here.
- You must use up all your free browsing minutes up until the 23rd of March. This is when the “Promotional Period” expires.
To be completely honest, Skype’s Peter Parkes said that all you had to in order to take advantage of this great offer is to run Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac and Find a compatible hotspot. It all sounded very simple, but then I caught a glimpse of a pretty long fine print – so I went over it and pulled out a couple of things you might find informative.
