Google Chrome, which reached version 21 on the Stable Channel, is now 4 years old. While announcing this joyous occasion, the Mountain View-based search engine giant touted the fact that the browser provides a consistent experience no matter on which platform you use it – Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Chromebook, Android, or iOS.

People keeping track of these things will remember that Google rolled out a Beta of its Chrome browser to the public back in September 2008. At the time Chrome was a newcomer to the browser market; its market share was nothing compared to Internet Explorer and Firefox. Time passed and Chrome is now 4 years old. Over time its version number went up and so did its popularity. Chrome, which reached version 21 on the Stable Channel, is now a well known browser with a worldwide market share of over 30% (according to statistics from June 2012).

As you can imagine, Chrome turning 4 is a big deal for Chrome. The Mountain View-based search engine giant used this occasion to tout the fact that Chrome offers a consistent browsing experience across devices. No matter if you use Chrome on your Android tablet, iOS smartphone, or Windows desktop PC, you get the same experience. By signing into your Google account you have access to all your bookmarks, tabs, history, passwords and more.

“When we launched Chrome four years ago, most people accessed the web through a personal computer. Our goal was to help build a better web--a web that is faster, simpler and more secure,” commented Sundar Pichai, SVP, Chrome & Apps. “The beauty of the web is that it’s the one platform that can deliver a consistent experience on any device with a browser. We've been working to build a more seamless Chrome experience that lets you to take your Chrome stuff with you on all your devices.”

At Chrome’s launch, Google aimed to create a better web experience – a faster, simpler and more secure one. Four years down the road and Google’s focus is on turning a better web into your web. Besides fast, simple and secure access to the web, Chrome focuses on helping you stay in touch with all the things that matter to you.
