Last week was undoubtedly Apple’s time to shine with the release of the iPhone OS 3.0 an the iPhone 3G S. But it was a joyous time for the Android user that wants to connect to the internet via WiFi as well as Boingo has announced the launch of its first WiFi hotspot finder and connection manager for the Google developed operating system, the Android.
Just to put things in perspective, Boingo Wireless provides more than 100,000 WiFi hotspots all over the world (in airports, major hotel chains, coffee shops and restaurants, and metropolitan areas) making it the largest network of WiFi hotspots out there. Boingo for Android, which is available for all Android-powered smartphones, aims to provide a very user-friendly and easy-to-use WiFi experience enhanced by Boingo’s convenient and automated way to connect to the internet.
And when I say “convenient” and “automated” here is what I mean. Convenient refers to the fact that your Android-powered smartphone will inform you when you are in a Boingo hotspot even if the app is not open – Boingo for Android will show up in the notification bar and will prompt you by playing a sound or by vibrating. Automated refers to the fact that a simple click will get you connected via WiFi to the internet.
General Manager of Mobile and Product Management with Boingo Wireless, Jonathan Mendelson, comments: “For the Android phones – and the entire growing smartphone market – Wi-Fi is a key part of the user experience. With the fast Boingo network, you can now do more on your Android phone with faster uploads to YouTube and Picasa, quicker email downloads and a better Web experience with Wi-Fi speeds, wherever you are in the world.”
