Zune HD Goes On Sale, Zune 4.0 Software Accompanies it
For the digital media player fan out there that wanted to get something other than Apple’s iPod, the Microsoft developed Zune HD has been available for pre-order for about a month now. As of yesterday, the 15th of September, the Zune HD digital media player became available for purchase - $219.99 for the 16GB version and $289.99 for the 32Gb one.
For this amount of money you would expect to get something good. You do! Zune HD comes with the following features: built-in HD radio receiver, HD video output capabilities, OLED touch screen, built-in WiFi, internet browser, accessories.
Alongside the release of the digital media player, Microsoft has released the Zune 4.0 software as part of what the company calls Zune “Wave 4.” This is meant to notably change the manner in which the Redmond-based company delivers music and video to the consumer. In the past the main function of Zune was that of an MP3 player. The touch-screen multimedia player Zune HD and the Zune 4.0 software turns the device from a simple MP3 player into an “entertainment platform.” You can access your media (music, viede) from the Zune HD, from your PC or from your TV and easily transition from one device to another.
General Manager of Zune Service Software with Microsoft, Dave Alles, comments: “The premise is that you should be able to access your movies, music, and TV shows wherever you are, on any device, and that there is value for customers beyond pure file playback. We’re putting all the pieces together so consumers can get their entertainment however they want and have the world’s best way to discover and share more. If you think of the customer at the center, as opposed to a specific device, you start to realize all these things are important, and you want some of your experiences to flow across your devices. In the entertainment space, Zune video will be the tip of the spear for Microsoft’s ‘three screens and a cloud’ strategy.”
