If you want to get a brand new portable digital media player, or if you are just looking for an alternative to Apple’s iPod, then perhaps you should check out Microsoft’s offer: for a couple hundred bucks you can get a Zune HD. We’ve known that Microsoft is working on a Zune HD for quite some time, but the Redmond-based software developer has now come out to fill in the gaps: When, Where, What.

When will the Zune HD hit the stores?
The Zune HD digital media player will become available for purchase on the 15th of September.

Where can I get it?
You can pre-order a Zune HD online here . Alternatively you can go to BestBuy and place a pre-order in person.

What is the price range?
There are two Zune HD offerings. The 16GB media player will set you back $219.99 while the 32GB one costs $289.99. For this money you will get a media player that features the following: built-in HD radio receiver, HD video output capabilities, OLED touch screen, built-in WiFi, internet browser, accessories.

“Zune HD, the next generation of Microsoft Corp.’s portable digital media player, is available now for pre-order and is set to hit store shelves on Sept. 15. The player, available in 16GB and 32GB capacities, is the first touch-screen Zune and includes powerful playback technology to give you a different way to experience media on the go. Combined with unparalleled PC software and online services such as Zune Pass, Zune provides a rich and meaningful connection to music, videos, podcasts and more,” explained Microsoft.

If you are going to get a Zune HD, then you might as well get a Zune Pass also. With Zune Pass, you have access to all the music you want, for as little as $15 per month – a fact that Microsoft made sure to properly emphasize back in May when it launched an ad touting the fact that Zune Pass is cheap, while iTunes is not (loading an iPod with 120GB worth of music will set you back $30,000 said the ad).
