You can now see high quality album art while listening to SHOUTcast stations if you have the latest Winamp for Android release (that would be version 1.4.3) and the Album Washer add-on (which is available as a $3.99 in-app purchase).

This summer we reported that Nullsoft rolled out the Album Washer add-on for its very popular Winamp media player. If you’re not familiar with the add-on, here’s the quick and to the point explanation: it cleans up your audio library. The longer explanation is that Album Washer, a tool powered by Gracenote, updates incorrect or missing track info (this includes artist name, track title, album name, and other information of this kind) and it presents you with an easy means to download high quality album art for your tracks.

The news is that if you have the Album Washer add-on and the latest Winamp for Android release, version 1.4.3, you can view high quality album art while listening to SHOUTcast stations. By default, this feature is turned of. To enable it you must go to Settings -> SHOUTcast Album Art, or you can long press on the SHOUTcast Now Playing screen.

This is the default look.

And this is how things look when Winamp displays high quality album art for SHOUTcast stations.

“The new SHOUTcast album artwork feature in Album Washer is based on a metadata look-up, so the accuracy of the look-up depends on the quality of the data provided by the SHOUTcast station broadcaster,” warned the Nullsoft team.

Android for Winamp is available for free download on Google’s Play Store here.
The Album Washer add-on is available as an in-app purchase. To purchase it, tap the Store button on the Winamp home screen and then select Album Washer.

As mentioned above, Album Washer cleans up your audio library. Please note that Album Washer works only with three audio formats: MP3, AAC, and FLAC. You should also note that with the FLAC format you will need the paid Winamp Pro version.
