Windows users out there that use Google Chrome will be glad to know that the browser has been updated to version 4.0 (only for Windows users for the time being). Version 4.0 comes with a whole bunch of security fixes and a long list of new features. Like for example a new security feature called “Strict Transport Security”, or an experimental new anti-reflected-XSS feature called "XSS Auditor". We’re not even going to go into how the V8 JavaScript engine is better than ever before. No, what we’re going to focus on are these two new features: extensions and bookmark sync.

For those of you that do not know what extensions are, Product Manager with Google, Nick Baum explains: “Extensions are little programs, created by developers, which add useful functionality to the browser and to the websites you visit. Some provide you with alerts and notifications, others let you easily access your favorite web services from icons next to your address bar, and there are lots more.”

All Google Chrome extensions can be found in the extension gallery. All you have to do is visit the gallery and install the extension that you like – should only take a couple of seconds for the installation process to complete. According to nick Baum, the new extension system will give you access to “over 1,500 new features.”

Moving on to the bookmark sync feature, it should be said that it is meant for the Chrome user that frequently changes computers. For example the person that uses Chrome at the office, at home, and at his girlfriend’s house. Keeping all the bookmarks synchronized could prove to be a daunting task. Not with Chrome 4.0 and bookmark sync. With a few clicks you can keep all your bookmarks synchronized and up-to-date.

If you would like to get started with Google Chrome 4.0 for Windows, you can download the browser here.

In related news, tests have shown that Chrome 4.0 is almost two times faster than the recently released stable version of Firefox 3.6. And Firefox 3.6 in turn is 4 times faster than Internet Explorer 8.
