Spaces: A New Google Product that Will Help You Share Stuff with a Group of Friends
Remember Rooms, the Facebook Creative Labs experiment that let you create rooms for whatever you’re into? Rooms is no more, because Facebook pulled the plug on Creative Labs. But there is a new app that reminds me of Rooms.
Spaces, a new Google product that lets you create a space for any topic you want. Once you create a Space, you can invite others to join, get a group going, and easily share stuff with the group.
Meet Spaces, a tool for small group sharing
The software world is full of apps and services that help you stay in touch with others. But that’s not going to deter Google. The search engine giant just introduced Spaces, a new app that wants to offer a better sharing experience to small groups.
"Group sharing isn’t easy," says Product Director Luke Wroblewski. "From book clubs to house hunts to weekend trips and more, getting friends into the same app can be challenging. Sharing things typically involves hopping between apps to copy and paste links. Group conversations often don’t stay on topic, and things get lost in endless threads that you can’t easily get back to when you need them. We wanted to build a better group sharing experience, so we made a new app called Spaces that lets people get people together instantly to share around any topic."
Google Search, YouTube and Chrome are built into Spaces
One of the most interesting things about Spaces is that Google built YouTube, Chrome and Google Search into the app. By doing so, Google wants to help you find and share articles, videos and images without leaving the app.
If you want to find an article to share, use the built-in Google Search to find it.
If you want to quickly find something that was shared earlier, use the built-in Google Search to find it.

Spaces is available as a mobile app for iOS and Android. You can grab it for free from Apple’s App Store or from Google Play.
