The development process of Skype Connect has finally come full circle with the application graduating out of Beta and being released as a final, stable product. Skype Connect 1.0, which used to be known as Skype for SIP, has officially been launched, announced the company we all know for developing the popular instant messaging and VoIP client.

Skype Connect 1.0 is meant for business looking for an IP-enabled solution that allows private branch exchange (PBX) or Unified Communications (UC) systems to connect to Skype. As Skype explained, Skype Connect 1.0 will enable businesses to achieve the following:

- Call landline and mobile phones at Skype’s low raters.
- Receive calls from landline and mobile phone in the corporate PBX using Skype's online numbers. These numbers have to be acquired separately.
- Receive calls from Skype users all over the world. The business needs only place Skype’s Click & Call buttons on its website so that users can click it and place a call.
- Manage Skype calls using existing PBX or UC systems' features. Among these existing features we can name call routing, automatic call distribution, conferencing, auto-attendant, voicemail, call recording and logging.

According to Skype, the recently launched Skype Connect 1.0 already has 2,400 active global customers.

“Since its inception, Skype has been used by many businesses wanting to reduce communications costs. In fact, based on internal research, in the first quarter of 2010, approximately 37% of Skype users reported that they use Skype for some business or business-related purposes,” commented David Gurlé, VP and general manager of Skype for Business. “Our team's goal is to empower businesses of all sizes and types with rich communications tools to unleash their productivity, while reducing their telecommunications costs. Following Skype Manager's launch in May, we are very proud to add Skype Connect to our list of specially designed enterprise solutions. Skype Connect seeks to enable our customers to reduce their phone bills, while protecting their investment in existing telecommunications equipment.”
