When it comes to people that are close to you, especially children, there is no arguing that you will do whatever it takes to know they are safe and sound. In a world when one can access data thousands of miles away, it is not enough to keep your children safe from traditional threats, you must be cautious with online ones as well. The software programs I propose to you will aid you with monitoring your child’s online chatting, will let you examine someone’s desktop activity, and will even let you aid other parents that have lost their child. Is your little one spending countless hours in front of a monitor screen just chatting away? It is a sign that your child may grow to be a software news editor, or it may simply be a means of wasting time. Whatever the case may be, you could use ParentSnooper v. 2.1 and as the name suggests, covertly sneak a peak at those chats. Other uses include seeing what pages your child has recently visited and what pictures have been viewed of late. The only downside is that ParentSnooper 2.1 will only work on Windows XP powered machines, and will set you back about $25.
If you want to take things one step further and do your monitoring in real-time, I suggest using Desktop Spy X 6.0. Just as the previous software application, Spy X will only work on Windows-based operating systems (Windows 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista) and will cost money to run (about $70, the first 30 days are free). The good thing is that it allows you to covertly monitor PCs connected to your local network, in real-time. So if you are in your study working on your PC and your little one is using the PC in the living room, you can effectively keep an eye on accessed sites, recently created folders, online chatting and emails, and even log keystrokes. There are other features as well: you can remotely control the desktop (including the option to start or stop running applications), access to Desktop Spy X 6.0 is password controlled, and logs can be encrypted and stealthily exported to your PC so that you can look them over at your convenience.
Missing Kids 1.03 is a widget that you can get for free, and once installed on your machine can be used to keep an eye on all the missing kids in the US of A. The concept behind this widget is a simple one: the database is regularly updated with info from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the application will inform you which kids have gone missing in your state. You might happen to be of help, but in order to do so you must first be informed.
