Microsoft shed some light on its SKU strategy for the upcoming Windows 10 operating system. The company explained that it will offer 6 different Windows 10 editions to its customers.
“As in the past, we will offer different Windows editions that are tailored for various device families and uses. These different editions address specific needs of our various customers, from consumers to small businesses to the largest enterprises,” said Tony Prophet, Corporate Vice President Windows and Search Marketing at Microsoft.
I have to remind you that Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system is scheduled for a summer 2015 release. It will be released in 190 countries and will be available in 111 languages.
The 6 Windows 10 editions that Microsoft will bring to the market this summer are:
Window 10 Home is the consumer-focused desktop edition that will offer customers a familiar and personal experience. It will feature Cortana, Microsoft’s personal digital assistant, it will have the new Microsoft Edge web browser, it will come with universal Window apps like Photos, Maps, and Mail, and it will let customers log in using their face, iris or fingerprint via the Windows Hello biometric authentication solution.
Windows 10 Mobile will power smaller, mobile, touch-centric devices like smartphones and small tablets. The most exciting thing about Windows 10 Mobile is Continuum for phone, a feature that lets customers use their phone just like they would a PC. Connect the phone to a display, mouse and keyboard, and your Windows phone basically becomes a PC.
