Linux Mint 6 KDE and Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox Available for Download
The Linux Mint team has great news to announce for Linux fans all over the world: work on Linux Mint 6, codename “Felicia”, KDE Community Edition (CE) as well as Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox CE has come to an end; the software is now available for download, free of charge of course. In related Linux news, the winner of the We Are Linux ad competition has been announced (details here) and the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit has kicked off in San Francisco.
Starting with Linux Mint 6 KDE, here are the highlights this Linux distro, which is based on Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, has to offer:
- Linux kernel 2.6.27-11, X.Org 7.4, KDE (K Desktop Environment) 4.2.2 and Amarok 2.0.1
- mintInstall 5, the "Software Manager" with new frontend, support for multiple portals, versions information
- mintUpdate 3 the new “Update Manager” with new GUI, history of applied updates, proxy support, improved stability
- mintUpload 2 with FTP support
- mintNanny, the minimal parental control tool
- mint4win Windows installer
- New command line named “search” lets you locate files that contain a certain keyword
- Gimp 2.6, Firefox 3.0.8, ClamAV antivirus
System Requirements for Linux Mint 6 KDE Community Edition:
- 256MB of RAM to run the installation process, 512MB of RAM recommended to run the OS
- 4GB of free space (minimum)
Linux Min6 6 Fluxbox CE has also been released to the general public by the Linux Mint team. Its features include:
- Linux kernel 2.6.27
- X.Org 7.4
- Fluxbox 1.0.0
- New menu system, new display manager and new “Software Manager”.
- mintUpload with support for FTP and proxy
- mintUpdate with update history
- mint4win Windows installer
- mintInstall 5, mintNanny, mintUpdate 3, mint4win, mintUpload 2, mintDesktop
System requirements for Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox CE:
- 32-bit processor
- 128MB of RAM
- 2GB of free disk space
- Graphics card that can support 800x600 resolution
