openSUSE is a Linux-based general purpose OS, developed by the openSUSE Project and sponsored by Novel, but you already know that. What you may not be aware of is that one month from now you could be attending the first ever openSUSE conference. If you though the openSUSE 11.1 pre-release party was interesting, then you are going to love the openSUSE conference.

The first ever openSUSE Conference will debut on the 17th of September in Nürnberg, Germany and will last through the 20th of September. You can register for the event here and you can check out a detailed schedule of the conference here. In the spirit of open-source, tickets to the openSUSE Conference are provided free of charge to all who register for the event. Please note that if you do not register, you cannot participate. Even though attending the conference will not cost you a thing, you will not be allowed to attend unless you have previously registered.

“Attending the openSUSE Conference is free, but registration is required. Lunch will be provided, so please be sure to sign up early so we can get an accurate headcount. The openSUSE Conference is for anyone and everyone making a contribution to openSUSE. Whether you’re a developer, packager, translator, artist, or ambassador, you belong at the openSUSE Conference if you want to help promote, improve, and influence the openSUSE Project. The conference will have two daily tracks of pre-planned talks, plus “BarCamp” style tracks for attendees to plan and provide their own content,” explained the openSUSE team.

Here are some of the talks scheduled for the fist ever openSUSE Conference:
- OBS and Cross-Platform Packaging: Peter Linnell
- Git in the Build Service: Andreas Gruenbacher
- openSUSE & Moblin: Michael Meeks
- Building Commercial Grade Appliances with SUSE Studio: Marcus Moeller

On top of that a full program of contributor workshops and sprints will be held by the openSUSE KDE team.
On the 19th of September, a full day of introductory sessions for new Linux users will be held in celebration of the Software Freedom Day.
