We recently announced that among the more than one thousand apps available on the Mac App Store, one of the newest is Intego’s Washing Machine. Available for purchase for $9.99 on the Mac App Store , Washing Machine can be used to remove the files that pose a privacy risk or needlessly take up space on your Mac. It can remove bookmarks, cache data, cookies, download history, and browsing history and it works with most browsers and numerous applications that store data without your knowledge.

The news is that Intego and makeuseof.com are running a contest and if you take part in this contest, you could win one of 25 copies of Washing Machine. Visit makeuseof.com and you will be presented with detailed instructions on what you have to do to enter this competition (basically you have to fill out a form).

The second Intego-related news is that its VirusBarrier X6 security solution has been updated to version 10.6.12. As a little side note, has been voted the Best Mac Antivirus product as part of the 2011 About.com Reader’s Choice Awards. It beat Panda Antivirus for Mac, Norton Antivirus for Mac, Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac, and ESET Cybersecurity for Mac.

Getting back to the topic at hand, Intego explained that VirusBarrier X6 version 10.6.12 comes with the following new bits and pieces:
- Added compatibility for the iPad 2, which means that VirusBarrier X6 will scan any iOS-powered device that is connected to your Mac.
- Improved Full Keyboard Access Support.
- This version uses less CPU.
- Behavioral analysis detection of malware has been enhanced.
- Various optimizations and corrections have been implemented.

If you have a valid subscription, you can get the VirusBarrier X6 update free of charge.
If you are not currently using VirusBarrier X6, you can download a free trial straight from Intego
