IMDb Unveils the Year's Top 10 Movies and TV Shows

After having unveiled the year’s top 10 stars earlier this month, IMDb has now unveiled 2016’s top 10 TV shows and 2016’s top 10 movies.

These top 10 lists are not based on Nielsen ratings, professional critic reviews, or statistical samplings. They’re based on actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to IMDb. That being said, 2016’s top 10 TV shows and movies are…

“For the fifth consecutive year, HBO’s Game of Thrones claimed the #1 spot on IMDb’s list of Top 10 TV Shows of the year,” said Keith Simanton, IMDb’s Senior Film Editor. “Game of Thrones has demonstrated unparalleled and enduring popularity over the last five years. Not surprisingly, its lead actors are beloved as well. Emilia Clarke, for example, is IMDb’s #2 Top Star of 2016, a spot she also occupied in 2015.”

“Buzz for Suicide Squad, IMDb’s #1 movie of 2016 (as determined by page views), began a year earlier when the film’s Comic-Con trailer became one of IMDb’s most viewed trailers in 2015,” said Keith Simanton. “Anticipation continued through the year with each successive online trailer release. Suicide Squad certainly wasn’t hurt by the fact that Margot Robbie, IMDb's #1 star of 2016 (also determined by page views), was one of the leads, the crazy-like-a-fox Harley Quinn."
